MY YOGA STORY
Yoga found me at a time in my life when I needed it most.
I remember when I took my first yoga class, I could barely touch my toes, and I was tired only after thirty-minute sessions. In the beginning, it was just the physical aspect which attracted me to Yoga, and I guess many people feel this way. I also wanted to regain my flexibility and tone up. Until I was about 14, I was very active, playing volleyball, soccer, swimming, dancing, running and I did gymnastics for over six years. I was never exhausted, and I did not know what sweat felt like!
Over the years of growing older, I developed depressions and eating disorders. Life got heavy, and I was afraid of other people. I ended up quitting one after another until I eventually quit everything. I was lost, and I was looking for something that gave me light. I thought I found this light but in the wrong things. Everything got worst from this moment, and it took me a couple of years to recover completely.
The final change came when I went backpacking in Australia. I didn't know how life was outside of my hometown since I never got to travel much. For me, things were just how they are, and I just took them how they came. I never knew that I was in total control of my life, I alone am in full control of my happiness, and I alone can create the life I want, I can dream big and turn my dreams into reality. My biggest goal was visiting Australia, and so I did.
I had a great time and finally felt alive again. I ended up on a Farm, fruit picking and the work was very tough. I started to get back pain from all the heavy lifting and carrying. My friend at the time recommended that I attempt Yoga. It would help. I started with Yoga videos to relieve back pain, and it felt really good, but I didn't go further than that.
Back home after six months, I fell back into a hole, back into the old life, old job, the old environment and the old me. I then started to do Yoga about three to four times a week. It took a couple of months, but I eventually discovered the benefits and how good I feel after every session. In the beginning, Yoga helped me with my back pain, but in the end, it was Yoga that aided in my final steps to recovery.
I can now finally say that I am happy, proud and confident in myself. I am continually trying to better myself and encourage others to do the same.
Yoga helps me feel more energetic, healthier, and all-round happier! And I want to encourage others to try it for themselves in the hopes they may feel and see similar benefits for themselves.
Love and light
